The painting Land and Ocean invites the viewer to linger at the shoreline, where earth and tide converge. The composition is anchored by a textured band of beach stones along the bottom edge, each pebble rendered with pink and purple hues. Above this “ground,” translucent waves roll inward, their curves and foam traced in soft pinks, milky whites, and dusky purples.
This piece sprang directly from a solitary coastal walk I took recently. As salt air brushed against my face and each tide-worn stone caught the light, I felt compelled to translate that sensation of boundary—where solid meets fluid—into a painting. The pink and purple hues reflect not only the sky’s shifting colours at the water’s edge but also the quiet emotions stirred by nature’s cyclical pulse.
